District Governors from Lions Club of Calicut

Ln.Dr.AG.Nair

Ln.Dr.AG.Nair was the first District Governor from the Club, in the year 1970-71. He was a Charter Member of the club and became the President in 1962-63 and continued for one more year in 1963-64.

He was a medical practitioner of great repute in Calicut, who set up his practice after taking his medical degree from Stanley Medical College, Madras.


Dr.Nair's Lionistic Services were well acclaimed in the whole of south India. The Lions District at that time consisted of Kerala and Madras. The bifurcation of the district took place at the district convention in Calicut in1970 and Ln.Dr. Nair became the first governor of the new District comprising of the Lions Club of Kerala. After working in important positions in the District level, he was elected unanimously as the District Governor of the District 304-S.

His wife Ln.Lady Visalam G.Nair was a very active member of the Lion Ladies Club and she was the President of the Lion Ladies Club of Calicut.
Ln.Dr.AG.Nair passed away on 7 th November 1976 at the age of 67, while he was at Coimbatore Railway Station on his way to a Lionistic Assignment.

Ln.K.T.Raghunath- Past District Governor 1984-85

Ln.K.T.Raghunath, who joined the Lions Club of Calicut in the year 1969, is a Post Graduate in Human Resources Development and a Businessman by profession.
After serving as Joint Secretary, Secratary, Vice President for three years and President in 1978-79 at the Club level, he was selected as Zone Chairman, District Chairman for membership development and Deputy District Governor of District 324 - E of the Lions Club International.


In the year 1984-'85 he was unanimously elected the District Governor of the Dist. 324 - E, consisting of 111 Lions Clubs in Kerala. Laurels and awards won by him are many including the 100% District Governor Award of the Lions Internationaland the Certificates of Appreciation from the International President and International Directors.He was nominated as the National Co-ordinator for the Sight First programme by the Lions International and was trained in the Aravind Eye Hospital. He is currently the Chairman of the Past Governors Forum of Kerala, handling the orgainisation of the past District Governors of Kerala. His Wife Dr.Shantha is a Medical Practitioner and his two daughters are both married and well settled.
