INSTALLATION OF CLUB OFFICE BEARERS:-
The Multiple District Chairperson of MD 324 Ln. KRIPA AMAR ALVA installed the President and his team of Office Bearers of our Club at a colourful function arranged at Hotel Malabar Palace, Calicut on 17th June 2006.
APPOINTMENT OF CLUB COMMITTES:-
We have appointed 36 Administrative and Activities Committees under the charge of three Vice Presidents.
BUDGET & ACCOUNTS:
- The Budget for the Lionistic year 2006-07 was duly approved by the Board of Directors and General Body of our Club.
- The statement of Assets and Liabilities as on 01-07-2006 and the audited statement of accounts (both administrative and activities) for the Lionistic year 2005-06 duly approved by the Board of Directors and General Body.
- The Statement of accounts of the Administrative & Activities of our Club for the Half year ended 31st December 2006 were presented and approved by the Board of Directors & General Body.
FISCAL OBLIGATIONS:
The following dues and contributions were sent to the International & District office on time.
- International dues :- 1st semi annual period Rs.97,725/- & 2nd semi annual period Rs.97,456/-
- District & Multiple District dues :- 1st semi annual period Rs.6,930/- & 2nd semi annual period Rs.6,996/-
- Contribution to MDCCI :- Rs.1,260/-
- Contribution to MDPFI :- Rs. 3,150/-
- Contribution towards programme for physically handicapped :- Rs. 2,625/-
- Contribution towards District Youth Programme :- Rs.1,575/-
- Contribution to LCIF :- Rs.4,851/-
- Contribution for District Directory :- Rs. 7,000/-
CONTRIBUTION TO LCIF FOR MJF :
A D.D. for Rs.62,000/- was handed over to our District Governor during his official visit to our Club on 17th December, towards donation to LCIF for enrolling MJF to 2 members ie. our President Ln. Er. D. Gopakumar & Ln. Dr. Murali P.Vetath.
CAMPAIGN SIGHT FIRST II PROGRAMME :
In addition to the contribution to LCIF for two MJFs, we have donated Rs.5,000/- to Campaign Sight First II Programme to our International Director Ln. K.G. Ramakrishna Murthi PMJF. This fund was raised from our members present at our Charter Anniversary Celebrations.
CLUB MEETINGS :-
We are holding two General Body meetings and one Board of Directors meeting every month. In the General Body meetings held during this Lionistic year we had the eminent personalities like Film Director Sri. Sathyan Anthikkad, Planetarium Chief Mr. V.S. Ramachandran, Cardiologist Dr. K. Kunhali, Noted writer Prof. Salam Karassery, Senior Scientist CSIR, Trivandrum Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan etc. as our Chief Guests.
OBSERVANCE/CELEBRATION OF EVENTS:
We observed and celebrated all events such as Independence Day, Onam, Gandhi Jayanthi, United Nations Day, World Lions Service Day, Founder’s Re-dedications month, Past Presidents Night, Ladies Night etc. We celebrated our 47th Charter Anniversary and International Director Ln. K.G. Ramakrishna Murthi PMJF was the Chief Guest.
INTERNATIONAL TWINNING:-
Our Club conducted an International Twinning with Lions Club of Bangkok Silom, District 310-D on 2nd August 2006. 24 members from the Lions family of our Club participated in the Twinning and also the one Week tour programme at Thailand. The Twinning programme was conducted in a colourful programme at Novotel Lotus Hotel and the President of Bangkok Silom Club, Ln. Shobha Tanwani presided the function.
MINOR SERVICE ACTIVITIES:
We have done so many service activities every month to the poor and needy people in and around Calicut. Some of them are as follows:
- Uniform cloths & other study materials worth Rs.27,250.00 to the students of five Schools in Calicut and Rs. 9,850/- donated to 12 poor students of different schools and colleges towards educational expenses.
- Rs.18,500/- donated to 4 poor patients towards their medical expenses.
- A water bed worth Rs.2,460/- was donated to Sri. Krishnan Nair for his ailing daughter.
- 30 spectacles to the inmates of Leprosy Home, Chevayur.
- Lunch was given to 160 inmates of Karuna School for Deaf & Dumb at Bypass Road, Eranhipalam on 10th July 2006 An amount of Rs.6,000/- was spent for this project.
- Donated Rs.15,000/- to Lions Club of Bangkok Silom towards their community project – an Orphanage in the north of Thailand – This was handed over to them during our Twinning at Bangkok.
- Donated Rs.5,000/- to Abhayam Old Age Home, run by Dharma Seva Samithy for the construction of kitchen.
- We donated Rs. 2,500/- to Malabar Association of the Deaf towards expenses for the programmes in connection with the 27th International Day of the Deaf held at Calicut from 17th to 24th of September 2006.
- Rs. 6,403/- spent for food provided for the Eye Camp conducted at Comtrust Eye Hospital in connection with Gandhi Jayanthi.
- We donated a Trophy worth Rs.2,500/- in the name of “Ln.M.Prabhakaran Memorial Every Rolling Trophy” to Comtrust Eye Hospital for the winners of Quiz Competition conducted among the College Students in connection with the Eye Donation Fort Night.
- Rs. 2,427/- spent for the Diabetic Detection & Awareness Camp at National Hospital on 12th November 2006.
- Rs.2,000/- given to MIMS towards the expenses of World Heart Day programme.
- Our Club actively participated in the International Day of the Deaf programme organized by Kozhikode District Association of the Deaf & Region VI of the Lions Clubs International, Dist. 324-E5 and donated Rs.2,000/- towards the same.
- Under the Self Employment Scheme we donated two sewing machines to two poor ladies – Chandrika, Kuttikattoor & Mrs. Joseph. This was handed over by our Vice District Governor Ln. Prof.O.C.Manomohanan during his Official visit. An amount of Rs. 5,600/- was spent for this project.
- We provided lunch to 825 participants in the World Disabled Day programme held on 3rd December 2006 at Town Hall. An amount of Rs.10,500/- spent for this project.
- Donated a Computer to Edakkad U.P. School & A.U.P. School, Malaparamba.
- Donated Rs.10,000/- to Sri. A.V. Bhaskaran, Elathur towards the expense of his daughter’s marriage.
- Financial assistance of Rs.2,500.00 given to Smt. E. Radha, Edakkaikottu House, Pantheerankavu, Calicut towards marriage expenses of her daughter Sobhana.
- Financial assistance of Rs.2,500.00 given to Smt. Fathima, Kurungottummal, Pantheerankavu, Calicut towards marriage expenses of her daughter Jumanath
- Rs.1,000/- donated to Navajyothi Charitable Trust towards assistance for the mentally retarded children.
- Financial assistance of Rs. 1,500.00 given to Mr. P. Suresh, Y.M.C.A. Cross Road, Calicut towards educational expenses to his daughter P. Shaaly studying for M.A.
- Financial assistance of Rs.10,000.00 to Smt. Vijayalakshmi, a poor lady at Thiruvally towards marriage expenses of her daughter.
SIGHT FIRST :- EYE SCREENING CAMPS & SURGERIES :-
In association with the Comtrust Eye Hospital and local voluntary organizations, we have conducted 75 free eye screening camps in different places during this Lionistic year and screened 20,317 patients at the above camps. The medical team selected 4,846 patients for free cataract surgeries and carried out 1,802 free cataract surgeries with IOL implantations during this Lionistic year at Comtrust Eye Hospital, Calicut.
SAMPOORNA KAZHCHA :-
Apart from the regular camps, we have adopted Chathamangalam Panchayath for “SAMPOORNA KAZCHA” and conducted three Screening camps at Chathamangalam Panchayath.
GYNAEC AWARENESS & CHECK UP IN ADOLESCENT GIRL STUDENTS :-
We have conducted a Gynaec Awareness & Check up Camp for adolescent girl students of Govt. Girls High School, Nadakkavu & C.M.C. Girls High School, Elathur along with the Lioness Club of Calicut. Dr. Lalitha, Gynaecologist in Malabar Hospital, Dr. Beena Johnson & Dr. Rajani Sivan took class and also the check up.
FREE MEDICAL CAMP :
Our Club conducted a Free General Medical Camp & Blood Grouping Camp at Kachilat A.U.P. School, Kattukulangara, Calicut on 21st January 2007 along with “ISCRA’, a local voluntary organisation. 10 Doctors & Para Medical Staff from various Departments examined patients. This was a very well organized camp. We distributed free medicines to poor patients. An amount of Rs. 8,750/- was spent for this camp.
DENTAL AWARENESS CAMP FOR STUDENTS:
Under the School Health Programme, our Club conducted Dental Awareness Camp at Malaparamba A.U.P. School, Christuraja L.P.School, Govt. U.P.School, West Hill, Elathur Panchayath Bhalavady & Anganvady. Ln. Dr. Nizaro Siyo, Chairman of the Dental Awareness Committee took classes and distributed Tooth brush and tooth paste to all students and teachers free of cost.
WORLD DISABLED DAY:-
In connection with the World Disabled Day on 3rd December, we provided lunch to more than 800 physically challenged participants of the cultural programme organized by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Kerala.
DIABETIC DETECTION CAMP:
In connection with the World Diabetic Day, our Club conducted a free Diabetic Detection & Awareness Camp at National Hospital on 12th November 2006. Total 283 patients attended the camp. In addition to free consultation, various tests were carried out.
AID TO GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL :
Under this project, we have donated a wet grinder worth Rs.12,500/- to Govt. Mental Hospital, Kuthiravattom, Calicut. This was handed over by our District Governor at a function arranged at the Hospital on 17th December 2006.
TREE PLANTING :-
Our Club hosted the inaugural function of CALICUT GREEN CITY PROJECT, Region Level Tree Planting Programme on 15th August, the Independence Day. Tree saplings were planted on the both sides of the NH Mini Bypass from Pantheerankave to Malaparamba and the project was inaugurated by Sri. Elemaram Kareem, the Honourable Minister for Industries, Govt. of Kerala at a public function arranged at Thondayad.
ORIENTATION :-
Our Club conducted a Leadership Seminar on Sunday, 24th September 2006 at Asma Tower, Calicut. Mr. Vijay Menon, Faculty member on H.R. & Organisational Behaviour was the faculty of the session. Our Region Chairman Ln. Adv. Ratnakumar Mallissery inaugurated the seminar. Our PDG. Ln.K.T.Raghunath MJF, Zone Chairpersons Ln. Adv.V.P.Mohandas MJF & Ln. Vineesh Vidhyadharan, members from our neighboring Lions Clubs also attended the seminar.
WORLD LIONS SERVICE DAY:
In connection with World Lions Service Day, we conducted a free eye screening camp at the Juvenile Home, Vellimadukunnu, Calicut. The Medical team from Comtrust Eye Hospital examined 72 inmates of the Girls’ Hostel and 20 inmates of the Old Age Home. 20 spectacles were donated to the needy and directed 22 cases to Comtrust Eye Hospital for detailed examination
WORLD HEART DAY 2006 :-
Our members participated in the “Walk for your Heart” held on 24th September 2006 in connection with World Heart Day organized by Corporation of Calicut.
U.N.DAY CELEBRATIONS
An Inter Collegiate Quiz competition was conducted in connection with U.N.Day celebrations on 24th October 2006 at our Lions Hall. The U.N.Rolling Trophy, cash prizes and certificates were distributed by our VDG. Ln. Prof. O.C. Manomohanan.
PEACE POSTER CONTEST:
Our Club conducted PEACE POSTER CONTEST at St. Vincent’s Girls High School, A.U.P. School, Malaparamba & Karuna School of Mentally challenged on 7th & 8th November 2006 and forwarded the selected best poster to our Region Chairperson for Region Level Contest.
MAJOR SERVICE ACTIVITY :-
We have donated 30 Wheel Chairs worth Rs. 1,20,000.00 to disabled persons at the Region Level Wheel Chair Distribution Project conducted by our Region Chairperson Ln. Adv. Ratnakumar Mallissery.
LIONS PARK :
Maintenance of our prestigious LIONS PARK in Calicut Beach is one of our continuing Major projects and so far we have spent an amount of Rs.1,16,054/- during this year
HOME FOR HOMELESS :-
We have given financial assistance to 6 poor families for the construction of houses. Total 1.5 Lakhs spent for this project.
LIONS HALL :-
We have done the flooring work of Lions Hall with ceramic tiles and stage work with wooden paneling. A total amount of Rs.1,82,755/- spent for the Lions Hall work during this Lionistic year.

Our Club published the Club Bulletin “THE CALICUT LION” and monthly News Letters.
DISTRICT LEVEL SEMINARS & CONFERENCES :
Our Club participated in all the Zone level, Region level, District Level & Multiple District level seminars, Conferences, Region level & District level Sargasangamam etc. We also hosted the Zone Conference & District Level Seminar for Club Administration.
WORD WIDE INDUCTION DAY :-
Our Club hosted the District Level World Wide Induction Day on Saturday, 21st of April 2007 at our Lions Hall. Ln. NAVROZ N. PATEL, Development Manager, India & Nepal was the Chief Guest of the function. Our District Governor Ln.Dr. K. Damodaran, Past District Governors Ln. K.T.Raghunath MJF & Ln. Prof. P. Varghese Vaidyan MJF and other Cabinet members attended the function. A large number of Lions attended the function.
GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF LIONS CLUB OF COIMBATORE
Six members from our Club attended the Golden Jubilee Celebration of our parent club, the Lions Club of Coimbatore on Wednesday, 23rd May 2007 at Coimbatore.
MAJOR FUND RAISING PROGRAMME:
We have conducted a Major Fund Raising Programme – ‘MUSICAL EVENING”, a grand musical entertainment night by Mr. Nayan J. Shah & Party and Lucky Draw at our Lions Hall, Calicut on 20th May 2007. We have collected a substantial amount from this programme for conducting various service activities. |
